1916 1911 government model with flaming bomb stamp

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the flaming bomb stamp on my 1916 dated government model 1911 signifies and also explain any of the other stamps present on it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

I'm having difficulty seeing much detail even at 250% zoom. Could you provide closeups of the markings?

    I find on Coolgunsite.com that:
"Most all of the Colts in the serial number range from C23,000 to C89,000 where shipped to foreign Governments (England, France, Argentina, Norway, and especially Russia who purchased approximately 51,100 pistols) for use in early WWI."

I conclude they are somebody's proof marks from where the Colt landed when new.

    Hi,
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the reply’s.
It was mainly the flaming bomb stamp that I was asking about, I always thought it was a US ordnance stamp and wondered why it would be on a commercial contract gun.
I have the same stamp on the barrel of my M1903 Springfield 1919 stamped barrel.
    Perhaps I’ll never know.
    Cheers
    Dan
