    Winchester .45ACP SMG Ammunition

I have acquired a 42-round box, labelled "Winchester, 42 Cartridges, S. A. Ball .45, For Use In, Sub-Machine Guns". There is no date on the box or on the cartridge headstamp, which reads "W. R. A. COM., .45 A. C.". I am looking at keeping it purely as a collector's item, but it would be worth knowing something about it, such as years of manufacture, whether or not corrosively-primed, &c. I have e-mailed Winchester, but they don't seem communicative. Many thanks for any information.

Please post a photo of the box, and the headstamp on a cartridge.

A good friend was in an Armored unit for his time in the Army. He mentioned that one of the two types of tanks his unit was equipped with was the M3 (or M3A1) "Grease Gun," which fires the .45 ACP round. That's most likely what this ammo was intended for, although it might have been packaged for the Thompson SMG.
