    Welcome to the forum.

Photos would help determine what your friend has. I'm not familiar with PH prefix serial numbers.

It is not a USGI 1911 or 1911A1 number and I have not seen a PH prefix on a Colt Government Model.

At one time there were several small aftermarket brands of receivers commonly used to assemble guns with surplus parts. Until I see yours/his, I will assume that is what it is.

Written right on the side of the gun; The receiver is a Para Ordnance. Started out in Canada, moved to US, bought out by Remington which has since failed.
The slide is a Colt. As I thought, military surplus parts on an aftermarket receiver.

From the partial picture, it looks like the Para Ordnance double column design. They first sold receivers only for you to add your parts just as we see here.

I believe the Para Ordnance high capacity frame kits also included a wide bow trigger and possibly magazine(s).

Yes. The PO kit included trigger, magazine catch, and magazine. Other parts are standard. The advertising was for it as a replacement receiver for an existing gun, although you could certainly buy up parts and assemble one from scratch, which is what this one looks like.

It's a Colt slide and parts assembled onto a Para-Ordnance "Gunsmith Kit" double stack frame.

They are rare, but not particularly collectable. IMHO it would be very difficult to place a value on it.

An Armscor double stack of the same design is $608 retail, probably less "on the street" and your parts gun is surely worth a good bit less.
