    Question MEUSOC civilian version?

Anyone heard of any plans for a commercial version and around how much will it cost?

I think they will, or are planning to, sell commercially.
About the same price as the 10X sniper scope; say $2500+.

All I can say is that some people obviously have way too much money if they are even considering paying that much for a pistol. And people complain about Colts prices!

That's not a copy, that is one of the interim MARSOC guns that the Marines are buying from Kimber until the bidding and selection process is completed and a company is selected to supply the new 1911 for certain Marine units. Right now no one is building an "official" MEUSOC/DET1 pistol because no one has been selected to do this yet.

According to American Handgunner, the USMC is building these babies in-house. They are investigating new pistol purchases, since the frames they have left and use, are getting tired from the contiuous usage, but they still haven't decided on a manufacturer yet.

From the description however, MEU(SOC) is not a heavily customized pistol, so I guess even a Springfield Loaded has more than the Marines get. Any decent gunsmith worth his files could build such a pistol for you.

    My 2 Eurocents only.

I've got to disagree with you on this. They may not be pretty but they are very heavily customized:

    Frame to slide fit
    Front cocking serrations cut
    Match barrel and bushing fit
    New sights, front and rear
Trigger job with new trigger, hammer and sear
    Ambi thumb safety fit
    Beavertail grip safety fit
    Misc small parts replaced
    Refinished with parkerizing

There is very little on these guns that the Marine Armorers haven't tuned or replaced - pretty much a full custom pistol if you ask me. Yes, any good gunsmith could build one but let's not diminish the job that the Marine Armorers have done building these pistols and keeping them running.

    Dave,

No intention here, to diminish the job done by the good folks in Quantico. It's from American Handgunner that I took the input, and it is also stated there, that this is the basic customization anyone does to a 1911. Requirements are for a 4" grouping at 25 yards. Hardly what you call match-level accuracy, but obviously enough for the job these people are called to do.

Yes, I thought it was interesting that the performance specs call for a level of reliability and the accuracy requirements are secondary (although I'd bet a six pack of our finest domestic brew that most of those guns exceed the accuracy requirements since the same guys that build them also build match rifles and pistols). I guess that makes sense since these are secondary weapons for most of the shooters that carry them and you would really want them to go bang when you pull the trigger.

I've been thinking about offering a MEU(SOC) replica package. Do you think there might be an interest in that? I'm a bit hesitant because I know that the guys that are issued these have gone through a lot to earn the right to carry one.
