Sig STX for IDPA?

I am about to buy my first pistol and pretty set on the Sig STX. I have experience with many pistols including 1911's but this will be my first pistol of my very own. As a stock pistol will the STX be legal for IDPA? If so what division(s) does it fit into? The only reason I raise the question is regarding the stock magwell. Does that knock it out? I do plan on carrying this pistol as well. Have not had any IDPA experience but would like to get involved for the trigger time, experience, practice, and "real world training". I'm looking forward to getting started! Thanks in advance for any help!

Well I just couldn't wait. Ordered my stx. But I read some more on the idpa rulebook. I believe I'm ok with the mag well but I think I will be restricted to ESP due to its weight. It's spec'd at 41.6oz with unloaded mag. Does this sound right?

Dgutter, I shoot IDPA in Idaho and I just ordered an STX for the same purpose. The local matches here seem pretty accepting of any factory 1911, I haven't seen anybody whip out a scale and I plan to use mine for either EST or CDP. I'm planning to change my grips to a thin stippled type for matches and I think lighter grips might bring it within weight anyway.

Congratulations! I have researched production 1911's extensively and I personally believe the STX is the best production model you can buy unless you want to spend $500 to $1000 more...

The Addendum increased the maximum weight for CDP to 42 ounces.
So if that particular flavor of alphabet soup really truly weighs 41.6 oz, it is OK.

I shoot IDPA club matches every month and a regional every year. I've also never seen a scale come out but, it's the honor system. I enjoy it, the competition for me is secondary to being safe, having fun, learning & practicing and talking gun porn with others.

I normally shoot a commander size 1911 or on occasion an officer size 1911, as that is what I normally CCW. IMO, in competition and everything being equal, a person "may" have a slight advantage using a five inch barrel with a 10 round magazine.

But... I have a better chance of Ed McMahon & Dick Clark showing up at my place with a million dollar check, than winning a IDPA match
