    Something I haven't seen before

Is this WE (weitech) offering new?

The description in the site this picture is from doesn't help: "New Version WE Hi-Capa 1911 Hybrid Full Metal Airsoft Gas Blowback". To me. the frame looks like it might be a Para-Ordnance lookalike, with some odd-looking grips, and an odd (but interesting) choice for a top-end...

What makes this particularly interesting to me, is that until recently, the only Para airsoft offering I new of, was from WA, and was plastic.

Of course, WE uses Tokio Marui's designs... not WA's. So am I missing something?

It seems the model I posted above is old... but these two are currently available:

    This is something improved

This is not something new and it has been available to the market since late 2007. The only different is that CO2 cartidge can be used vs. the green gas. It should be more powerful. The only held back is no marking on the slide.

Well, if I understand things right, TM and WE widebodies take the same magazines, no matter if they're STI-like or Paras, so since the CO2 mags have been available for a while (and since the guns are all-metal anyway), it's a given that the CO2 mags can be used...

In theory, you are right about the TM and WE, but in reality, it all depends when the pistols were made. When WE first launched their 1911 single stack series, some of the magazines were interchangable with TM products. As I collect both the TM and WE products in the last three years on their 1911 clones, I have noticed that there are some changes on the notch of the magazines and they are no longer be used. A good example is the recent released WE Kimber Desert Warrior. I could not put my TM mags into it. I know for a fact that green gas mag and CO2 mags are both available for this wide frame 1911 as I have seen those mags in shops in Taiwan.

On the other hand, some of the TM mags may now be used in KJ products.

Thanks for the information. All I know is that the mags for that Para-like pistol look identical to the mags of my TM Hi-Capa. They're not CO2 mags, but John here has tested a WE Hi-Capa, and apart from being all-metal from the factory, it (and its mags, one regular, the other CO2) seem to be the same, too.

It is worth trying if the two mags fit into the wideframe. One thing you got to be careful is that if the pistol is originally for CO2 mag, then there is no problem in putting a green gas mag into it, but not the other way around as the pressure on CO2 is higher than green gas and it will cause serious damage to the slide as well as the o rings in the both the gun and the mag.

That's a good point about the pressure. I'm pretty sure that there are no size differences between the magazine types (apart from the length), since John tested an all-metal WE HiCapa some years ago, that came with a green gas mag and a CO2 mag.

I'm not sure what test you're referring to, but here's John's original article, featuring a HiCapa with both magazine types:
