    "Show us your ___" Threads

    Folks -

In the sticky area of just about every manufacturer's area on this site there is a thread, usually entitled "Show us your ___" or something close to that. These threads are where members can post photos of their favorite pistols from the respective manufacturers.

Yesterday I went looking through one of those threads, hoping to find a photo that would help answer a question in the "Gunsmithing" area by illustrating a point about a particular pistol, I noticed that probably a third of the photo links no longer functioned. The members must have removed the photos from their photo hosting site, or moved them so the links no longer pointed anywhere.

I also noticed that there were entire PAGES (10 posts to a page) of idle chit-chat, with no photos.

Ladies and gents, this is not the right way to use these photo threads. They are for posting photos, not for discussion. Comments complementing someone's pistol should be sent via PM, not posted in the photo threads. And if you care enough to show off your pistol, PLEASE have the courtesy to leave your photos up on the hosting site so they will continue to show up in these threads.

We will soon begin going through these "Show off your ___" threads. Initially, we'll just clean out the chit-chat posts. While that's being done, all of you who have posted your pistols in any of those threads PLEASE go back and verify that your photo links are still valid. Eventually, we're going to simply delete any posts that have expired or inactive photo links.

Lastly, we would have thought that it should go without saying that a thread in (for example) the Wilson Combat area to show off photos of your Wilson Combat pistols is not an appropriate place to post photos of non-1911 firearms ... from other manufacturers. Apparently it does NOT go without saying, so we're forced to belabor the obvious: Please do not use each manufacturer's photo display thread to post photos of anything other than that manufacturer's 1911s.

We need your help and cooperation on this. Thanks for your understanding.
