    Operator vs Kimber (Desert) Warrior

I'm currently looking to purchase my first 1911 pistol. I own an XD-9 sub-compact (my carry gun) and a Sig P226 9mm.

I've narrowed my choices down to the Springfield Armory Operator 1911 and the Kimber (Desert) Warrior 1911. I'm really interested in having a rail on my 1911, and it will be used as a range and home defense weapon (so holsters aren't an issue).

Both guns are approximately the same price (~$1200) and I've played around with both and find both comfortable. Each have their merits as far as style... so I'm branching out to see if anyone has some first hand experience with a comparison between these two firearms. Also, this specific Kimber model at the store I'm planning on purchasing from DOES NOT have the firing pin safety that the newer models have.

    Thanks in advance!

If your talking about the MC Operator and not the LW Operator compared to the Warrior, and they both feel good to you, then I would have to give my vote for the SA Operator. The biggest reason for this would be the Lifetime warranty on the springfield. There customer service is hands down top notch.

I vote for the Kimber. Although Kimber doesn't have a stated lifetime time warrantee, they stand behind their products with excellent customer service. The other reason I'd buy the Kimber is because it is 100% made in the U.S.A. while the Springfield has its major components imported from Brazil. Other than that, they would both serve you well and either would good choice.

I'd vote for the Kimber as well for the same reasons as whitey019. I have a couple of Kimbers and both have been great. I sent one back to Kimber for minor issue and had it back within a week. I am also a SA fan, have an XD, but the marketing of SA gives me mixed emotions, being an American company but they import all their pistols. My XD has been flawless for years and have heard good things about their frames from Brazil, but Kimber is an all-American 1911. Let us know which way you go.

I own a Kimber Warrior II and I love it. I use it for IDPA, it's very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. However, I'm looking for a backup/alternate 1911 to use for IDPA and was considering the Operator. From what I understand they're both pretty comparable.
So, just buy both and let me know how they compare.

I'm not a fan of the schwartz safety on the Kimber. Go with the Springer.

Don't over engineer it, don't ibm it, don't mit it and don't all go for a road scholar in malfunction clearance, just tap and rack-Clint Smith

Both pistols are great shooters and will shoot better than almost anyone that will hold them. The only reason I would go with the Springfield is because I run suppressors on all of my weapons. It seems to be easier and cheaper to find threaded standard (bushing) barrels than Kimber's bull barrels. A 1911 with a light/laser & suppressor combo is one of the smoothest shooting pistols on the market.

    Just my $.02

I think this is one of those that is a pretty close call. Go with the one that feels better to you. I usually like the Kimbers better, but I have handled some very nice Springers.

    Both excellent choices IMHO,

    regards

    Jeff
