A couple of reasons: 38 Super is not an approved caliber anymore, where I work; The Gold Dot 357 ammo, we are issued, is going about 1450 FPS out of my Kimber (1100 to 1200 is more the norm in 38 Super); And my personal experience with the 357 Sig's performance puts it at #1 in my book. A 38 Super would have been a lot cheaper and easier, but for these reasons I'm a 357 Sig fan. Thanks. Tom

When I started we were only authorized to carry the Sig 229. Then they changed the policy and we could carry a Glock 22, 23, or 27. I switched to a Glock because I hate the double/single actions on Sigs. Although not a single action, the Glock does have one consistent trigger pull, which I preferred to the Sig. Then finally someone saw the light and they realized that we should be able to carry any reputable firearm in .40 or .45.

I carried a Kimber Ultra CDP, then a Kimber Custom CDP. I diverted for a short time and carried a Sig Carry Nitron 1911 for a short time. Currently I carry a Kimber Custom TLE/RL with a Surefire X300. But, I have an Ed Brown Special Forces Carry on order. I ordered it with the light rail, so when it arrives I will carry it with an X300 as well.

My friends at work are also teasing me about carrying a $2500 gun on duty, and they all think I'm crazy. I've scrapped, saved, and coveted an Ed Brown for years now, and have finally made it. I believe they're the best, and why wouldn't I carry what I consider the best? My life may depend on it, I'm pretty sure that is worth $2500 to me.

Started out with a Sig-Sauer P220. The admin had a wonderful idea that everyone should carry a Glock 22. Carried this for several years and then was able to carry a HK USP in a 40S&W. The new admin finally decided we could carry what we wanted provided it was a good quality from a known manufacture. Now that I was able to leave the dark ages, I started out carring my Colt Combat Commander. I then went to a full sized Springfield 1911 that had been set up by Gunsite. Been carring this Sprinfield the last 5 years and has been great. My Colts and Kimbers are tighter shooting but the Springfield is still a good grouping pistol and has a smooth trigger. By far I love the 1911 pistols for patrol. Hope I can finish out my career with the 1911's.

    Jeff
