there would be no issue with customer input if CD built the gun themselves. by having another manufacturer involved complicated the situation. plus, nothing was said about MRI's commitment to BUL about purchase terms. CD is positioned as a value product. MRI may be banking on their brand allowing a higher price point. CD has great products but they are not mainstream to the majority of the shooting public. say 'magnum research desert eagle' and it is almost a household name. MRI may have offered a few dollars more per unit than CD and committed to all the production if the terms with CD fell through. 'incentives' may have been offered to various BUL staff. we probably will never know what went on behind the scenes but i doubt the open customer input was the determining factor.

Again, I won't say what the determining factor was. If I do, my mods will warn me!!!

No, if MRI intended to enter the 1911 market they would have to figure out what configuration(s) of features to offer. Starting out cold, they would have had to conduct their own market research, through focus groups, questionnaires, polls, or whatever. They would have had to invest time and money in performing market research -- or else just make an arbitrary decision and roll the dice.

Even if Charles Daly had not been discussing production with the same source as MRI, MRI would still have been able to cash in on Daly's on-line, public product research and position their new offering in the same configuration(s) that Daly's research showed would be most likely to attract interest.

I personally think that by coming to this forum and asking for ideas, CD behaved like a company that wanted its finger on the pulse of its customer. It's a shame the production deal fell apart, but when things straighten out again, I'll still be interested.
