    Colt changed it.

I just got off the phone from speaking with Cindy at Colt customer service. She confirmed that, since the company split into two divisions, they are being VERY strict about maintaining each division as a separate entity. All the old links to www.colt.com take you to the military & law enforcement division. To get to the commercial division (which is the side that produces the 1911 and 1991 pistols) she said we can use either www.coltsmanufacturing.com or www.coltsmfg.com . She also said that all the technical info that was available previously is (or should be) available at the new address ... but we'll have to scrounge arounge to get the updated links and post them.

If you go to the old www.colt.com site and click on "Contact Us," the 800 number for customer service still works and Cindy said that number is still valid for calls regarding the pistols -- even though it is listed as the number for Colt Defense.

At the end of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Franklin was asked "Well, Doctor, what have we got -- a Republic or a Monarchy." According to Dr. James McHenry, a Maryland delegate, he replied, "A Republic, if you can keep it." So far, so good.

Just now, Sigarms, Springfield and Dan Wesson didn't work. The others did.

These need to be updated. Most of the manufacturers have made changes to their website since John put up the sticky.
    Sig is now:
    http://www.sigarms.com/CustomerServi.../GSR1911OM.pdf

Dan Wesson is now part of CZ-USA:
    http://www.cz-usa.com/data/downloads...n%20Wesson.pdf

    Springfield:
    http://www.springfield-armory.com/Manuals/1911man5.pdf

    The others are still good.

secinv, which 1911? There are instructions on the M1911.org homepage that should help. The process is slightly different depending on whether or not you have a model with a firing pin safety.

I have a custom one, but to remove the firing pin is tricky. I did though find this nice website with useful info on this and other items of interest.
