Can someone describe the manner in which the fit of the thumb safety is verified, or checked.

Easy enough. Cock the hammer and engage the safety. Pull the trigger with roughly double the normal amount of force required to fire the gun. Hold the left side of the gun to your ear and slowly thumb the hammer back past full cock without letting it touch the grip safety. If you hear a little "click" the safety isn't blocking the sear correctly. If you don't hear it, repeat, but this time thumb the safety to the "OFF" position before pulling on the hammer.
No clicks in either test means the safety is functioning correctly.
Note that ordnance specifications allows .005 inch of sear movement during this test. This holds true for guns with unaltered, ordnance-spec hammer hooks.(.027-.030 inch and slightly under square, or captive.) On guns with
tuned trigger actions and hooks shortened below .025 inch, you want zero sear movement...No "click."
