Old man, set the opiates down, lay down in a bed, and lay quietly until the winged bullfrogs all leave.
Tuner:
You gotta switch to a better brand of 'shine.... Those bullfrogs are going to cause problems if you keep seeing them....
I've got four Kimber magazines with no dimples. They work fine, although the last casing usually hits me in the head. These are the seven-round "Officer's" type with the compressible follower. (The gun has an Officer's length grip frame and a 4" bull barrel. Browning would probably approve since it's otherwise stock 1911, but....)
(Can I give your "number" to a guy with a Kimber who can't keep plunger tubes from falling off? Kimber fixed it, for 500 rounds or so....)
Regards,
Stu.

When ya start findin' live rounds amongst your brass, and extractor problems due to the last round jumpin' ahead of the hook...and the last round layin' loose in the port with the slide locked back...don't come cryin' to ME!Originally Posted by SMMAssociates
Sure...but unless the tube is correctly mounted and staked, it'll just keep fallin' off. Inside...where the legs spread...the holes need to be countersunk a wee bit so the staking tool will have somethin' to stake the steel into. Works just like a staked-on front sight...'cept it's harder to get to.

By then I'll have replaced the mags, or put Tripp conversions in 'em.... So far, so good, though. Otherwise the only (knock wood) feed problems I've had in about 500 rounds is once in a great while the extractor will refuse to let go of a case. These are "you bought what?!" reloads, and it really grabs 'em. Virgin or once-fired brass seems fine.Originally Posted by 1911Tuner
It appears that the frame's too thick right there for a standard tube's pins, and nobody's gotten it right in milling away a little frame (if that's even a good idea). My vote would be to treat it like a front sight and hog out a little more, but this guy's in AZ and we're not....Sure...but unless the tube is correctly mounted and staked, it'll just keep fallin' off. Which mags have the dimple?
All standard 7-round magazines with the sheet-metal followers. GI Springfields come with'em. Metalform Company sells magazines with'em...or order the followers separately. Wolff 11-pound springs recommended.Originally Posted by J.P.

Tuner,
Have you tried the Tripp Research mags or heard any reviews of them? They seem to be quite a step up from the Wilson......
The Cobras? Yep. Was underwhelmed. A THR member was good enough to send me a pair to test. Out of a dozen utterly reliable pistols, I got a failure to lock the slide on 6...4 with one mag and 2 with the other. One top round nose-dive failure to feed per mag in three pistols...and a bona-fide Bolt-Over Base with one magazine is two pistols.Originally Posted by jridg
Stouter springs would go far toward providing better function. I also understand that the followers can be ordered with different slidestop elevator shelf heights to change the slidestop timing.
Well-made magazines though. Tubes were second to none, and the steel insert on the follower is a great improvement over the similar Wilson-Rogers.
At 40+ bucks a copy, though...I'll stick with Metalform for $12.00 per mag when I order 40 or more, or $23.50 at full retail. Standard 7-round mag with the Wolff spring...Statistically, 100% function can't be bettered.

Thanks again Tuner - I don't think I'll order 40 - but that's some good advice on the mags.
About 6 weeks ago, I emailed Virgil Tripp and ask him for a couple to try out. Two weeks later, he answer telling me that he will send me two magazines for test and evaluation. Two weeks later I hadn't heard from him, so I emailed him back. His wife (or whatever) told me that they would be shipped Monday the 7th of November.Originally Posted by jridg
I still haven't heard from them, if they send them and of course I haven't received any magazines.
