Good day all members, I believe all is well and good on your side? Members , please assist, I received a Colt 1911 , Mark 4 .45 ACP from a friend, although this hand gun is customised for competition shooting the original manufacturing and serial number is still on the frame as a Colt Government Model, COLT COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG. CO. HARTFORD.CT. U.S.A. - 22662G 70 , it would be great if members will be able to tell me more about the history o this hand gun.

You describe a Colt Government Model Mk IV Series 70 made in 1977.
It differed from Government Models made before 1970 only in the collet type barrel bushing and the markings.
They have been modified in every way imaginable, so yours is a WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get.

Since a Mark IV is not a military pistol, I have moved this thread to the appropriate discussion area.
My book of Colt serial numbers doesn't show any numbers fitting the pattern described. Jim Watson has indicated a 1977 date of manufacture -- I would have said 1974 or 1975 based on other serial numbers, but the ones I see are in different sequences, so it's difficult to know. In any event, it is probably safe to surmise that your pistol was manufactured in the mid-1970s. Mark IV was Colt's commercial series of pistols at that time. It began life as a fairly standard commercial pistol. The more expensive pistols in that time period were designated Gold Cup or National Match.

That's good enough for me. What I have is just a small booklet that I picked up at a gun show years ago. As I said, it doesn't include anything that fits the sequence of this serial number, so what I found is hardly conclusive.
