Got a tub of various Colt M1911 (and some others) magazines from a friend recently. Among them were the four pictured "two-tone" magazines. I have reviewed copious notes taken from the M1911 Magazine Identification pinned thread, but could not be sure of three out of four of them. The first mag has a pinned floorplate and blued follower. Second mag has a pinned floorplate as well, but ramp of follower is finished in white. Third mag is identical to the first (including follower), but exhibits spot-welds securing the floorplate and the "L" is absent. The last one (Post#2 and only example with a lanyard loop) would have been the best... if not for some bonehead taking a hack saw to the upper right side of the hull above the catch slot to add another. What possible purpose this butchery accomplished eludes me. However, my question here is, can (or should) I attempt to at least render a cosmetic repair with something like silver solder to fill-in the gap (as any type of welding like TIG might cause a even bigger problem). Thoughts and/or recommendations welcome...
