    New 9mm ordered

I got into 9mm pistols recently and have tried several kinds. I have not found one that I can shoot as good as my 1911 45. When I tried to find one it seemed nobody was stocking any. I did a couple Rugers, three different Berettas, .and my last ones are a Sig 320 and a 365. They were all good quality pistols. They just didn't seem to work for me as good as my 1911. I can just point it and hit what I point at. My Sig 320 is the closest thing to working. It has a really good trigger. I shot my Sig today and my Colt 1911 GI. I was shooting at some 6" round plates at 15 yards. I shot two magazines in each gun. The Colt was 100%. And the Sig using the optic was 0. All real close but not a hit. I turned off the optic and just used the white dot sights looking through the glass and shot 80%, When I shoot it quite a bit I do better. But the 1911 is always really good. So I got one ordered. I got a basic Rock GI. Hopefully I can shoot it as good as my 45. Maybe have it in a week or so. They said they had 147 of them in stock.

Mec-Gar make good magazines in 9 mm for 1911’s. The RIA ACT supplied 45 magazines get mixed reviews. I have no experience with the ACT 9 mm 1911 magazines. Post a review after you get your pistol.

I have a RIA 1911 A-1 I’ve had for several years. The only issue I had was the ACT magazine supplied with the pistol wouldn’t fit in the mag well. My FFL Dealer friend gave me a Colt mag and it has been gtg. Greg Cote is a good source for Mec-Gar and RIA magazine if you have trouble finding 9 mm 1911 mags. Here is a link. I have no affiliation with Greg Cote.

I found a place that had those MecGar mags in stock and ordered two for 18.95 each. I have loaded and unloaded them about 50 times each to break them in. They looked good and ordered two more. So I will have 5 mags for it. Maybe the gun will be here in a couple days.

Finally got my new 9mm yesterday. Cleaned it up really good and lubed. Took it to the range and fired 100 rounds through it without a hiccup. The finish is really good. Not a blemish on it. This morning I put a dab of white paint on the front sight. Yesterday it shot really good. Shoots 3 or 4 inches high which I don't mind a 6 o'clock hold. I was using my 147 grain reloads powered by Unique. Today I will put 100 in it again powered with 231. It has the tightest slid to frame fit of any 1911 I have had. No wiggle at all. here is a pic I got this morning with my Colt 1991 45.

Another 100 rounds in it today. One magazine I shot it as fast as I could pull the trigger. Today I used my loads with 231 powder. It seems to shoot a couple inches high at 25 yards. Today I also shot at a shoot and see target somebody had hung. I shot at one of the small circles probably 2 inch at 5 yards. Hit the circle every time in a 9 round mag. I am really pleased with this one. My Sig is going to have to drop back to 2nd place.

Thanks for the latest update and sharing your quest to identify the 9mm that works for you. I have had a similar experience. I am running three 1911s, well one is a Para P13.45, and a couple Sig P320s. I started with a 1911 so they point so well for me. For me, the P320 was better than other striker designs. After trying different grip modules, I ended up with the X-Grip Compact that feels closer to a 1911 for me. Which P320 and grip are you using?

I have been very close to ordering the RIA 9mm. You took me a step closer. Note - I have a Citadel 1911 FS which was my 1st 1911. Going on 900 rounds now and runs. :-)

Last November I picked up a Sig compact RXP and it was the best plastic gun I have shot. I am not bad on the optic but actually shoot better looking through it turned off and using the white dot suppressor height sights they put on it, With a little more practice I could do the dot a lot better. All of my guns have had the white dot iron sights and used to them. I painted the front sight on this Rock Island. It did better today after doing that. I don't mind the small sights on a GI. I actually shoot better when I have small sights and shooting at a small target. I usually shoot clay pigeons on the 25 yard berm. This one is tighter than all of the ones I have owned. And the finish is really good. No blemishes at all. If this is typical of what they are producing I think anyone would be really happy getting one. I was surprised too that the feed ramp was polished to a mirror finish.

Thanks for the update Ron! Looks like you got a really nice 9 mm. I’ve been around several RIA pistols and they have all been gtg.

This morning I adjusted my trigger from 5 1/2 lb to 4 1/2. It is really nice and crisp. I dehorned the safety on the left side. I am left handed and it rubbed a little. I took the sharp corner off of it. It is identical to my Colt now. Put another 100 in it today too. No problems with it at all. We have a keeper.
