best bang for buck casual magazines

Howdy. I used to own a 1911 many years ago and sold it foolishly. Recently I have picked one up again but it only came with 1 magazine. I was shocked to see the prices of some of the magazines for sale, I remember them being under $10 a piece when I owned mine. I think the ones I had back then were called Chip McCormick. Now it seems like $40 is the going rate?? Obviously I don't want cheap junk from China. I would just like something good enough for casual target shooting as I won't be relying on this pistol for self defense. Don't need all the tactical rubber bottoms and such. What magazines would you recommend picking up? It seems like there are a lot more brands out there now that I have never heard of. Thanks in advance!

Check-Mate is the OEM magazine supplier for a great many manufacturers of 1911s.

Chip McCormick has retired and sold the company to Wilson Combat. It looks like its being run as a standalone by Wilson, still making Chip's designs.

As far as I know, Chip McCormick magazines were made by Check-Mate. I don't know who actually makes them now that Wilson Combat owns McCormick.

Sales & Marketing are responsible for a big chunk of that $40.

Here are three outstanding magazines that won't break the bank and which will feed smoother than any Wilson, McCormick, or Tripp based on my almost 50 years of experience and extensive magazine testing.

My top three recommendations for your application (assuming you have a 5" .45 1911):

Thunder Mountain Custom Ultimate Magazine $28

    Check-Mate .45ACP, 7RD, SS, Hybrid, Removable Base - Full Size $22

Check-Mate Match Extended Blued Full Size 1911 Magazine 8 Round $26
