Back on topic; I've wanted to duplicate a round that performs the same as a SD round. But as far as I know a HST bullet is not available. I personally haven't done it, but a possibility is to chrono an SD round and then build a round with the same weight bullet that chrono's the same. Just a thought that I've personally had as an option to using up my SD ammo stock. Occaisionally I'll shoot one mag during a range visit.

Will be following this topic as I'm curious to what you and others come up with for a solution.
That's another one where I'll have to rely on rumor and someone like Hawkmoon can drop some science on us. I've also heard a DIY gun is for hobby/range only. The reasoning I understand is that any of the non-factory equipment allows the prosecution to portray you in a very negative light as some sort of crazed lunatic out for blood.

On the handload HPs, that's exactly what I was thinking. You may not get exactly the same terminal ballistics, but if you can match weight, speed and bullet profile as closely as possible, you ought to have something approximating what you'll be carrying. The added bonus over ball ammo being that you can check for feeding reliability, too.

I suppose a stockpile of HP might come in handy for what the preppers call "Without Rule of Law" scenarios (I think I got that close at least). Not exactly zombies, but if it's Mad Max in your neighborhood you can probably carry whatever you well please.

I played with that on using a 147 grain round nose for my 9 and my 38. The 38 didn't shoot nearly as well as with my 148 gr DEWC. It could be done in a pinch but as long as I can get bullets I will use what works best.

I use 3.6 grains of HP38 in my 38 using 148 gr DEWC and 9mm 147 gr round nose. Both are cast TEK coated.
