Nighthawk Custom and the 30 Super Carry caliber

Yesterday, Nighthawk Custom announced the support of the new 30 Super Carry caliber, during the SHOT Show.

Nighthawk Custom was the first to build a working model and Federal used their pistols in their testing. There are other manufactures working on pistols in this new caliber, but NHC are the only custom manufacturer. The new caliber required a new slide, barrel, ejector, extractor, firing pin stop, and magazine. It will be available initially, in NHC Custom President and GRP models.

NHC's site is not yet updated with the new caliber. I am sure it will soon be. If you want to learn more about the new caliber, visit Federal's web site, here:

I've been reading about the .30 SC but it seems there is only enough ammo for the demonstration range at SHOT.
That may be the reason WGC hasn't sold the Nighthawk they have had in stock since about the second day after announcement. I know there are many who don't mind paying $4000 for the latest, so something besides price must be keeping it on the shelf.

I also see it's unavailable on their website. What gets my attention is the 12 month subscription for American Eagle in 45 Auto. Currently at $169.99 for 250 rds, or ~$0.68/rd, the price isn't great, but the concept certainly is for a guaranteed supply. I haven't seen a subscription concept before, let alone even being able to buy much from the manufacturers in my short time looking.

Can anyone tell me the appeal of this rehashed .32 auto? I just don’t get it.

If you think of it as a rehashed .32 Auto, it will be hard to explain.
Think of it as a .30 Luger +P.

I predict that 30 Super, will be as popular as the 327…Nothing to see here, move on.

    I agree.

Beyond that, we are in a period when the ammo manufacturers can't meet the demand for popular cartridges, and components (especially primers) are difficult to impossible to find for reloaders. This strikes me as a particularly bad time for Federal to be diverting scarce resources into developing a new cartridge that gives every appearance of being an answer to a question nobody asked.
