Union Switch and Signal frame markings

Several weeks ago I saw a Union Switch and Signal 1911A1 on one of the internet gun auction sites. The pistol sold for around $5,900 or so (way out of my market) but I was unsure of the frame markings. It looked like they had been done with some sort of engraving tool, not stamped. I know that all of the frame and slide markings on my Dad's Remington Rand are clearly stamped. Were some government contract pistols marked in this way?
    Thank you for any information.

Someone pantographed those markings. Not only unsightly but also illegal to own a firearm with an altered serial number.

That pistol was just full of red flags indicating it was a knock-off...yet it sold for something like $6k.

Buyers of collectible firearms must educate themselves BEFORE spending that kind of money. I hope the buyer realized his mistake soon enough to stop payment or get a refund.

If you Google images of US&S 1911s, they ALL have the serial number ending basically directly under the right end of the "United States Property" (right justified). The "No" in the serial number falls pretty much beneath the 'A' of "States."

This appears to be a poor quality fake built on a cast frame.

Ouch! That is a lot of money considering the defects noted here. Kind of why I quit chasing for a WW2 1911 years ago. I was too ignorant to catch the incorrectness from unscrupulous sellers. Thanks to this site I do have a bit more knowledge, but haven't actively pursued one. Now and again I look for fun. I tell ya though. If I ever get serious again I'm going to solicit the experts here.

As stated above, the example cited by the OP is inconsistent with the known format.
Hopefully, that deal was "scotched" before it went through.

    Here's mine:

(No, I did NOT pay $1,599 for it.)
