I found this forum looking for a bit of information so I can complete my 1911 build. I shot my first 1911 at Camp Drum, when I was a young teen ( I was not in the service at the time, but Dad was the unit XO.) A few years later I qualified with the 1911 as a second lieutenant. I bought and sold numerous 1911s in the early 70s. I ended up with my current M-1911, it is one made for the Marine contract in the last quarter of 1912. It was arsenal refurbished in 1918. A number of years ago I decided to give it a good retirement. Just recently, I wanted an automatic .45 to shoot ( I shoot the revolver M-1917). I bought a Caspian frame, and went from there, using a combination of GI and Wilson Combat parts. I am in the final stages of my build, tweaking small details. Then it gets a USGI hot blue, to look like a pre WWI 1911. I have a nice selection of US martial pistols from the M-1819. up to the M-1911. I also do a lot with black powder, both ML and cartridge.
I have been a professional archivist researcher and librarian for almost my entire career.
