    Question Detailed Information

I am new to this web site. As I read through several threads, I am amazed at the amount of detailed information that some authors have about serial numbers, pistol markings, and history of this gun. Where can a newbie find this kind of information?

There is a good bit here under M1911.org home page.
    I usually look to Coolgunsite.com

The best references are the Clawson books but they are long out of print and "the big book" 'Colt .45 Service Pistols 1911-1945' will cost you as much as a pretty good pistol.

The Meadows and Poyer books are not perfect but are a lot less expensive.

Click on the pistol at the top left corner. From the page that will open, follow the link to our Home Page.

Jim, Thanks for your reply. I'll check the home page as John has suggested, but if not there, where else should I look for this detailed information?

To quote a usually reliable source (Me!) Coolgunsite.com is the only other place I know of on the www with text and pictures.
You can ask questions here and on 1911forum.com and get pretty good answers but it is hard to learn this stuff one question at a time.

The Scott Meadows series of U.S. MILITARY AUTOMATIC PISTOLS..... books the least expensive way to comprehensive information. The Charles Clawson books normally quite expensive.
