    Springfield V16 - 45 ACP and 45 Super ???

I purchased a used Springfield V16 - it’s a 1911 stainless ported long slide - it has “45 ACP” on the barrel - are all of the V16s also able to handle 45 Super, simply by switching the 45 ACP recoil spring out with a heavier spring to handle 45 Super?

You probably should contact SA about that.

Yep, already reached out to them - I couldn't find an email for their customer service, so I had to leave a voicemail.

I sent the following in to Springfield:

V-16 SN N437xxx and N419xxx and N413xxx - can these V-16s shoot .45 ACP and .45 Super with just a change of the recoil spring?

They responded “Yes, that is correct”!

I have one; get the spring and a box of rounds and give it a whirl!

It has been compared to 10mm but I couldn't say. I own both and I reload for both but never shot them within a decade of each other.

The Super requires Super brass, available from Starline. It has a heavier web.

I have only shot standard .45 ACP out of mine, and it's a shooter. I see no point to the porting so one day when I see an unported 6" .45 barrel I'll switch it out.
    Regards, Gary
