Although this is a reloading question, I posted it here since it does not pertain to a 1911 .45. I have an RCBS cartridge case runout gage to test for both bullet and case neck runout. According to the instructions, for accuracy with rifle ammunition you do not want the case neck runout to exceed .002 and you do not want the bullet runout to exceed .005. I have been reading about bullet runout and the articles that I have read are pretty much all in agreement with these measurements. Many articles stated that accuracy wise, .010 is real bad news for accuracy. There is no mention of damage to a barrel due to runout...my question is assuming runout not exceeding .005 to .010, does this cause any harm to a barrel? I am talking about factory barrels...nothing exotic.
