    The NRA Mess Explained

I hope all our members -- at least, those who live in the United States -- are aware of the situation unfolding at and about the NRA. The NRA is being attacked from outside and appears to be imploding at the same time. There has been a lot of verbiage, from both NRA bashers and NRA supporters, over the past year or so. It can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

the Firearms News web site has just published an extensive look at this by Jeff Knox. Jeff is the son of the late Neal Knox, who was a member of the NRA board of directors, a senior vice-president, and the person who should have been the next president of the NRA -- except that he ran afoul of Wayne LaPierre and was forced out. Jeff's article provides a solid perspective on the situation, as well as asking some basic questions (such as: Why does Wayne LaPierre still have a job?).

After Charlton Heston died, I got a Cabela's catalog courtesy of the NRA.

    I cancelled my membership.

    EDIT:

I mis-remembered. Heston stepped down in '03 and passed away around 5 years later. It was after he stepped down that I received that Cabela's catalog, which I inferred to mean that the NRA wasn't using my money to fight for anyone's rights.
