Colt 1991 Compact Two-piece guide rod: identification and issues
First, before I posted this, I DID search the forum to see if I could find the answer already listed.
Last week, I purchased this 1994 Colt 1991 Compact Model. It came with the following aftermarket parts (at least): Packmayr grips; extended beavertail safety; extended magwell; two piece guide rod.
It was part of a police auction out of Puerto Rico, and I know nothing of its' history apart from year of manufacture.
This is my first Colt, and my previous RIA 1911s have been full-size. I understand that there may be an issue with needing to replace the recoil springs more often.
However, I am unable to see any manufacturer noted anywhere on the guide rod assembly.
Can it be identified from the picture? And, where could I obtain appropriate springs?
Since I can't ID the guide rod, should I get a different one?
NOTE: the aperture is for an Allen wrench, but the guide rod unscrews easily with finger pressure.
And I put the scratches there, trying to figure out how to disassemble it, before I saw it was a two piece. Should I clean that up with a needle file?
