Do you have a recommendation for a replacement?

I've decided that guide rod setups aren't worth spending money on, so I'm happy to go with whatever comes with the gun.

That said, I haven't had to deal with two-piece guide rods (that may or may not have a tendency to separate at inopportune moments) or mini-1911 setups with telescoping and/or compound springs, so I have no opinion on those.

For guns with full-length recoil spring guides and open plugs that can be pressed in far enough for the barrel bushing to rotate (i.e. most of them), I've found that a magazine floorplate is a much handier takedown tool than a bushing wrench, provided that the bushing isn't tight enough to require more leverage. And it helps if the magazine floorplate is plastic.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

I had a 1911 with a 2 piece guide rod that kept unscrewing while firing. Problem solved with copious quantities of LockTite Stud and Bearing Mount. I, also, didn't need to shorten the rod.

The Army Ordnance drawings for all the M1911A1 parts with their official names can be found in our Tech Issues section, 15th bulleted item down from the top.

I have the Kuhnhausen books too, I'm guessing those names are there also.

    Be my guess.

But there are even a few dimensional errors in the drawings in Kuhnhausen's books which brings to mind this from JK himself:

Don't know if there any nomenclature errors.

Didn't mean to dismiss your advice, I went there right away and downloaded that information. Thanks.

No sweat! Just wanted to emphasize that those Army Ordnance drawings are the only true ones for the M1911A1 Gov't Model and the special parts for the National Match models. Their only problem is that some of them can be a little difficult to see and read. Several folks have tried to correct that problem by coming up with their own versions. However, these ersatz version seem to have problems of their own even though they look real nice. One example is shown below. Can you or (anyone else) find the problem with it?

    Me, me! Pick me!

I see at least one error, but I'll hold on for awhile to give others a chance. I'll PM my answer to Niemi24s so y'all can't accuse me of cheating on the final exam.
