Does anyone know if Major D received his pistol, what he got and if he reported it elsewhere?

Yes I did get it. It was a field grade. A Remington Rand late 44 or early 45 frame. Slide and barrel are post war colt replacement parts.rebuilt at Marine Corps logistics base Albany GA in September of 1977.
Have fun about 400 rounds through it so far ( did put in a Wilson flat wire recoil spring with shok buff as a measure of protecting the frame from battering) with 100% perfect function, including hollow points, semi wadcutter and lead round nose ( all of which many experts say will not function in a box stock GI gun) has the Wright engineering grooved hammer. Completely satisfied with it for $950

Great pistol, although it did not storm the beach at Normandy I’ll bet it served with pride in Korea and beyond before receiving a much needed rebuild. I like to think the pistol recently given me was also used by the Marines as it has a 1939 Navy slide and a 1944 frame, both Colts. While in Korea I carried a 1911a1 with the SN removed that I bought off of another G I as it was in better shape than my issue pistol. Both 1911’s remained behind when I rotated home..Would love to have the one with a serial number with me today.F8B976F4-CB24-4616-B380-4EA3E444C2D4.jpg
