    Questions about P10

    Greetings:

Just bought a new to me, and visibly just about new P10-45 to go with my Colt Officers Model, and wonder whether there is anything really important which time has revealed about these pistols. While reading the threads a couple of questions popped up but now I cannot remember any of them, so I'll leave it with the general request for info. I see its vertical serrations indicate Canadian manufacture, and the serial number is so short it must be quite old. One of the threads has an email address for Para-USA, which if still active may let me know about when it was manufactured. I have not actually seen the pistol yet, the image is about all I know of it.

Oh, here's one question: Do the dust covers on pistols like the P Series lend themselves to having light rails cut into them, or is the metal too thin?

The name Para-Ordnance rather thasn ParaUSA, and the Florida address, confirm that your pistol was made in Canada. It must be fairly early, because Para dropped the P10 for a couple of years and, when it came back, it was called the Warthog (not P10.45).

No, you can't cut a light rail into the dust cover. The profile of the frame is exactly the same as your Colt Officers ACP.

    Thanks, Hawkmoon;

I have long wondered how the P10 became the Warthog. Missed the fact it was discontinued for a bit. Seems there were a couple other variants as well but maybe those were based on other models.

If you have questions about Para-Ordnance, this is the place. Our fearless leader, John Caradimas (a.k.a. El Comandante) was a personal friend of the late Ted Szabos, the president of Para-Ordnance. There are a couple of us here who (collectively) know quite a bit about Para pistols.

Another 1911 website has a long list of serial numbers and dates. It appears that your stainless P10 was made in 1997.
Be sure to tell us how it shoots after you take it to the range.

Well, I didn't know if I should/could post the details for "this fount of knowledge."
    But, it's forums.1911forum.com
Go to the para subforum and then look in the stickies--https://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=331114
Then go to page 16 of that thread for the best listing of "born on" dates that I've come across.

    Not bad, but rather disjointed.

    Thanks.

Whoa... I don't know where to begin.

For one thing, they have guns there listed as made in NC, in 2009. As far as I know, production in that facility started wasn't moved completely until 2011.

EDIT: fixed. I believe there was a significant overlap in production between the US and Canada, as explained to us from the horse's mouth (see post #12). So yes, it's not impossible for 2009 NC models to exist, but that doesn't mean that everything beyond that was also made in NC.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

    Hawkmoon and Spyros,

At one time I owned two each of the P12, P13, and P14 series. I've sold a couple and have only 4 now. This database is spot on for my pistols.

For the referenced database, they wanted
For listing the following is necessary:

Serial number - use x's for the last couple of digits if you like.
Include ALL letters that are in the serial number.
Manufacture or test fire date - Month/Day/Year preferred, Month/Year acceptable.
    Model Number.
    Brief description.
    Origin: CA or USA.

According to https://gunvalues.gundigest.com/para-usa-para-ordnance/ Para moved to Pineville, NC, in 2009. In the database December, 2008 is the listing for the first USA pistol and all others after that are USA. December 2008 versus 2009. Not much difference considering how little information is available (almost none) from P-O, Remington, etc.

If you guys can find a better database or put a better one together let me know.

    Rob
