Recoil spring on EMP 3 inch

I see on some forums people having problems with the two piece guide rod coming loose and putting loctite on the threads. The only place I could possibly see threads would be the little end cap that lays against the barrel on the end of the little part of the rod. Is that the place they are talking about?

Actual “two piece” guide rods have a threaded joint somewhere in the “rod” part itself.

I have a Sig Ultra 3.3” 1911 with a guide rod like what I believe you’re describing; a threaded rod screwed into the end part. After the first time I shot that pistol, the rod seemed to be unscrewed a little bit. I immediately degreased the two parts, and put them back together with a bit of blue LocTite.

The EMP, like many 3-inch 1911s, uses a 2-spring recoil assembly, not a conventional recoil spring guide.

Ah; the OP was referring to a recoil assembly, and not a two piece guide rod.

My Sig Ultra came with a FLGR, and a non-captive flat wire recoil spring.

Mine looks exactly like Hawkmoon's picture. What is it about the spring assembly they talk about coming apart? Is is just the flat end unscrewing off of the guide rod or in another place? That would be the only place that I see that you could see something coming loose. They all call it a two piece guide rod. I guess that is the big part and little part.

No, that photo I posted was taken from the M1911.org review of the original EMP, all the way back in 2006. I don't know of any 3-inch 1911 that ever used a conventional guide rod.

Well he's writing that the new recoil spring assembly needs 500 rounds to be broken in.

I haven't seen the EMP's user manual, but I'm going to go on a limb and say he's probably misunderstanding something there...

He writes that the first assembly loosened after 1200 rounds. How many rounds are EMP recoil springs good for?
