First 1911 - Sprinfield Mil Spec

    Hello all,

I just joined and this is my first post. I finally got around to getting a 1911, a used but apparently unfired Springfield Mil Spec. I say "apparently" as I can see no evidence this gun had ever been fired and if it had whoever cleaned it did a remarkable job.

I got the original case minus the owners manual, a set of plastic grips as well as three extra mags, four in total including two "McCormick RPM 10 Rounders". Whether these are stock that came with the gun or whether they are good mags or not I wouldn't know, perhaps someone here can chime in?

I can tell this is going to be a new learning curve from what I am used to and I can't wait to get it to the range and break her in.Attachment 5268

    Welcome to the forum!

That looks like a nice find, and those 10 round mags don’t come as OEM with any 1911.

Thanks for the info. I wonder what those slots in the case were originally intended for as there is clearly some room for extra mags and accessories. Springfield is known for being rather generous with their accessories. Are these 10 round mags any good?

Welcome to the group. I have the same gun. Bought it 10 months ago. This has been a very pleasant gun to shoot since day #1. It feeds my LSWC hand loads as well as Federal JHPs quite well. Only problem was on my last range day with it. The hammer began following to half-cock. I look forward to getting it back with that repaired. The local indoor range is shut-down due to COVID-19, so there's no hurry anyway. Here's a photo of how the case looked on the day I brought it home from the shop where I bought it.
Case open - to share.jpg I hope you enjoy your new gun.

One more thought, since you don't have the owner's manual. The barrel on mine is tapered a little by the muzzle. Accordingly removing the barrel bushing with the slide all the way forward is a problem. I push the slide back about 1/2 inch then remove the barrel bushing. When re-attaching the barrel bushing I also push the slide back. Doing that it works smoothly without damaging the tight fit between the barrel bushing and the end of the barrel.
    i sold all my handguns. . . . . . . . . . except for the 1911 style pistols in .45 ACP.

I love mine. It looks like yours except mine doesn't have the idiot scratch.

Learn the proper reassembly procedure so you don't add to the scratch you've inherited.
