I don't know if that has ever changed. Wilson Combat, at the time, seemed to regard that as a feature rather than a bug.
The new ones seat more easily into a pistol with the slide forward than the old ones did, even after the springs in those had taken their set.

I’m wondering if the new style follower and springs could be used in the older 9mm ETM magazines
