Hi all pistolpadre here, it’s 23:21 hrs mt., and I don’t even know if I’ve got the right place to post this.. I like the site, but that part still confuses me a bit.. ok, after buying, selling, and trading my away through forty plus years of 1911’s (I’m an old revolver guy first) got into 1911’s back when it was bowling pins, and PPC ruled.. Elmer Keith and a little guy named Sketter Skelton we’re alive.. WWII era 1911’s were cheap..I saved my nickels and dimes and bought a LW cdr. Life was good.. I wasn’t winning anything, but I loved that little Colt.. so years and un told 1911’s pass through my hand.. I have some physical issues these days, and last year found out I couldn’t shoot a 45 acp as well as in years past.. so I figured maybe I’d try one in 9.. an hour and 20-30 min ago I bought a RIA M1911FS in 9.. paid a whole $411 for it from classic firearms (good people) and picked out a little pawn shop close to the house (Sun City AZ) to take my FFL $ from me.. thanks for hanging in there with me down memory lane, and as soon as I get it, and figure out how to post pics that will of course happen..

9mm 1911s are considered heresy by some, but they are VERY nice to shoot. I think the naysayers forget that the Commander was originally developed as a 9mm. Many years ago I picked up a nicely refinished by nearly shot out 9mm Colt Commander and it's perhaps my favorite 1911 ever. The problem is that the hole in the barrel underlugs is so worn that it's oblong; when the barrel is removed from the receiver, the link pin falls out. So I rarely shoot it, but I love it when I do.

There is nothing wrong with 9MM, 1911's. I have and shoot both 45's & 9's. As the body ages, a 9mm is definitely nicer on it.

Nothing wrong with 1911s in 9mm. Well -- except maybe that when you take a 9mm and a .45 Auto 1911 together at the range, and shoot the 9mm first, when you switch over to the .45 it can feel a bit... rude.

9mm 1911’s are very nice for those of us over 60. Prior to having hand surgery on both of my hands, I was only shooting 9mm as .45’s caused too much pain. Now that my hands are pretty much fixed I am still shooting a lot of 9mm and for a range day that will be a high round count it is almost always with a 9mm.

Somewhat surprisingly they are gaining a lot of popularity with the younger crowd also. Those that never read Skeeter or Elmer.

Thank you guys.. funny I’ve had some browning (copies) and carried a Glock (wash my mouth out lol) from time to time with the dept. even as a supervisor, but never had a 1911in 9 so REAL excited about it.. I’m having some difficulty getting a close FFL dealer. I’ve got some mobility issues that make trips to Cabella’s or what ever sort of hard, plus I’m cheap ha ha.. I bought the gun late Friday, and after a couple of blank walls decided to wait till Monday.. interesting enough Classic firearms wants it shipped as much as I want it so it’s the big chore for tomorrow.. today as in now I’ve got the bears and packers to watch.. all you old guys take care, and you younger folks if you don’t know who Skeeter is do the Google thing and get addicted to a wonderful gun writer who was also a Texas lawman.. adios

The ongoing saga of the cheapest (uhh.. lowest priced) 1911 one can buy, my Rock Island mil spec in 9.. it looks like all is good to go..I was afraid I would have to drive all over town to find an affordable FFL dealer, as the local pawn broker I’ve bought a couple of pistols from (old colt official police in 38, and a used but unabusedTaurus knock off of a PPK at 1/3 the price) was closed over the weekend, and I thought perhaps out of business.. nope answered the phone at 0915 hrs and had just taken the weekend off.. so that’s a done deal and now it’s just waiting for Classic to ship it out..

Hope by now you received your 1911 and also had a chance to get some range time. I picked one up in 9mm a few years ago and agree it is much easier on the wrist after a session now that I`m 66 years old !!

230 HB, as a matter of fact I’ve just picked the little gem up today..(01/02/2020) obviously haven’t fired it, though it did come with the typical two empty rounds to show FP impact point.. and I suppose to verify that it “worked when it left our place”.. heavier than I remembered, but imagine that’s due to more steel in the bbl.. ok, and my advancing age.. out side of the slightly flared and lowered ejection port, and the 10 round magazine (with base plate) it’s 1943 all over again.. I have pics, but due to my iPad sending them up side down I’m going to ask Randy (pyre) to relay them..

The two empty cases are for those jurisdictions that require fired cases from every gun sold so they can file them away for comparison in the event of a crime. Google "ballistic fingerprinting" to learn more. If you received the fired cases, then your jurisdiction doesn't have the requirement. Where it is a requirement, the FFL sends the fired cases to the police (not sure if local or state) along with the serial number of the firearm they came from, and (I suppose) the name and data for the purchaser.
