    40sw loaded question

Hey guys I own a 40sw stainless Loaded and plan on doing some work to it. Basically a trigger job, Mah well and maybe some grip stippling on the front. My concern is will I de-value the gun adding the stippling? I’ve been reading that there wasn’t that many made. I can’t seem to post pics.
    thank you in advance.

Any permanent alteration like that may well affect the future value of the piece, especially if you screw it up. May I suggest a strip of grip tape on the front strap? Same effect, but not permanent.

i also have some Tripp mags coming.
i am thinking of trying some gun sports here locally and want the gun to perform. Is there any must do upgrades I should be looking at? I have a rear target sight and plan on getting a fiber optic front soon.

I agree with scattershot. Not only might stippling the front strap affect the value, IMHO it would also significantly reduce the pool of prospective buyers if you decide to sell (which is the only time the value has any meaning). I know when I'm looking at used 1911s, anything with a stippled front strap is immediately and automatically eliminated from consideration.

Just my opinion, and it's worth as much as you're paying for it:

Do not make any modifications to the gun, until you've shot it substantially as-is.

A bit of a trigger clean-up (just polishing the sides of the trigger parts, no messing with tips and angles) is all you need at first, for competition. You'll see a lot of shooters putting grip tape on various bits of their guns at the range. This might be neat for providing some frame of reference during the unholstering -- FOR GLOCKS and other pistols that have little or no frame of reference on the gun, as you grip and draw it in a big hurry. The 1911, with its safeties and slide stop, is pretty well sorted out in that regard.

If you really find that the front strap slips on you, grip tape is all you need (skate board tape or ladder tape will do, whichever's cheaper -- they're the same stuff anyway). Or you could try another set of grips with sharper diamonds, if you like, but that will be dearer.

Note that I'm at best an average performer in my local IPSC matches, but I have learned that in general, any money potentially spent on modifications, is better spent on practice ammo, until you get pretty darn good. I've been shooting in these matches for a bit over a decade now, but I'm still in the 'buy more ammo' stage.

    Good luck!
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.
