Per Mr. Clawson's Commercial Series book marked "S" and/or "P" forward of the barrel lugs.
Thanks for the response. I realized later I should have just posted some photos and asked 'is this a correct barrel for a 1923 commercial 1911?' So:

And, if not, what is the pictured barrel?

Later barrel. The box C 1945 and later. COLT 45 AUTO top of chamber 1949 and later. M signifies mag particle inspection and P indicates proof tested.
Doran:
Very much obliged for the information. I suspected as much.
