Thread: Early 1911?

    I think you are correct. Only thing that bugs me is the checkered short pull trigger.

    Nice gun, probably refinished, the pictures are pretty dark though.
    As an heirloom it's priceless.
    Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.

    Why is that a problem? The grips, mainspring housing, and apparently the grip safety have been replaced. Why is it a mystery that whoever rebuilt it wanted a shorter trigger? Maybe he (or the owner) had small hands and wanted a shorter trigger.

    Nope.
    That is the Colt company proof mark, seen on all commercial Colts after about 1904.

    question for hawkmoon. Did Colt rebuild any commercial weapons for ww2 military use. Colt proof mark and R appear on trigger guard.Inspectors450.jpgIMG_0069.jpg

    VP Verified Proof symbol was already standard proof mark on COLT commercial pistols and revolvers since about 1905.
    COLT added this mark on military pistols since 1937.
    Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.
