Something you should consider is what I did: buy a Sig 1911 in 357 Sig and then send it to Sig for a 40 cal barrel, if they have any left at this time. IIRC, they were/are getting out of 40 cal in 1911's. For me the cost of sending it to Sig and having them do the work was the same as me buying a 40 cal and fitting it myself, and it took just a couple of weeks. 357 Sig ammo is expensive!, even if you reload. 40 cal is more reasonably priced for practice.

You might want to consider a 38 Super/9mm combo. This is a more economical combination and IMO the 38 Super is really close to the 357 Sig. 9mm is pretty inexpensive in terms of practice loads. I have this combo in 1911 and 2011 formats.

But if $$$ is no object, go with the 357 Sig.

Recently got a new Sig Nightmare 5" in .40 S&W for $749 out the door. Outstanding shooter and the weight of the 1911 soaks up the recoil. Really nothing not to like.
