    pinned base magazines

Does a pinned base magazine signify a military mag? Did any civilian mags have pinned bases? Colt must have produced copious quantities of unmarked mags with pinned bases but I still find it confusing when trying to determine if an unmarked, pinned base mag is made by Colt or some other company. I would appreciate a block of instruction for making good decisions concerning this issue. Thanks so much. Frank

Both military and commercial Colt magazines pinned until WWII era. The WWI and WWII contractor supplied pinned magazines normally marked with a letter signifying the maker. Remington UMC produced unmarked pinned magazines but have shorter baseplates, sometimes hard to determine a top tolerance UMC from a bottom tolerance Colt.

Norway produced pinned magazines but those have loops and usually easily determined by construction and finish.

Argentina produced magazines very similar to Colt and often mistaken for Colt magazines.

There's an ID sticky in the magazine section showing various magazine marks, construction, etc.
