    Para Ord Carry 45 q's

    Hi All,
Just found & bought a Carry 45. No box, no manual but two magazines.
Finish is well worn from bouncing around a glove compartment but shot little.
It is a 3" barrel, LDA. Shoots like a dream though a full mag of SD ammo gets my attention.

    My questions:
    Is the extractor standard 1911?

Any suggestions of what parts I should buy that are unique to this LDA?

I am going to buy the recoil springs.

    Thanks
    Norton

It could be either 1911 standard, or para's proprietary Power Xtractor. Is there anything on the slide that says "PXT," or is there an 'X' in the serial number?

There are a lot of little springs and things that are unique to the LDA pistols. I think even the sear spring is different. Sarco os one of two companies that bought up all of the remaining stock of para parts when Remington discontinued manufacture of ParaUSA guns. I don't know if they still offer it, but at one time Sarco had a kit consisting of one each of all the unique small parts in the LDA pistols.

Here's a link to Sarco's listing of the Para parts they still have:

    Hi Hawkmoon,
    Thanks for the info.
Between the Para and LDA there is a large X (Para X LDA)).
Looks like two number 7's , crossed with the horizontal portion facing each other.
Safe to conclude it's the power extractor?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Yes, that large, stylized 'X' signifies the Power Xtractor.

EGW has a one-piece replacement for the Power Xtactor that is reported to alleviate what some feel were shortcomings in the PXT design.

That is the stamp on my slide.
I haven't had any issues with the pistol but I only fired 25 rounds, 7 of those were full SD loads.
Guess I better shoot it some more...
This will replace my P12 as a carry at services for the summer months.
    Thanks again.

Check out EGW for a replacement recoil spring assembly, as well. Supposed to fit all 3" barrel 1911s and flat-wound spring to reduce the possibility of coil bind. I'm waiting for one on backorder now. I'll post how it works after I get it.

I got tired of waiting for notification that it's in stock so I looked around and found one that is identical except the spring plug is blued so I bought one of those. Went to the range and the first two mags were flawless but as I shot more (and the gun got dirtier) premature slide lock-backs started with one per mag and proceeded to get worse up to 3 per mag. I then put the "old" recoil assy back in and that one exhibited the same symptoms as the EGW after being flawless the week before. Clearly I have other issues to deal with before I can evaluate the recoil spring assemblies. Will keep you posted as I work this out.
