    Valtro Recoil Spring Plug replacement

I'm unable to find the recoil spring plug for my Valtro model 1998. I purchased a plug from Brownells, but it's too big - and I suspect I need a reverse plug. Any one have an idea on where I can find a replacement? The site where I bought it is not taking phone calls or email at this time.

John Jardine was said to have breathed on Valtros sold in USA.
Look him up. Unless he is the one not communicating.

The blueprint dimension for the recoil spring tunnel is .499" + .005". For the plug itself, the blueprint dimension is .485" - .005".

What's the inside diameter of the tunnel in your slide?

Valtro mentions some "Near Custom" features for the 1998A1, including a full length guide rod.

Could be proprietary, or could be a standard catalog part from a custom part maker.

It's .499 inside. Has a full length guide rod, so the Brownells plug I purchased, which is closed, will never work. I spent another couple of hours crawling around my basement floor looking for it, but no joy. Are recoil plugs sold by dimensions?
    Thanks,

    No, they are not.

At .499" your slide is within spec, so any recoil spring plug should work. What's the diameter of the guide rod? Standard is .330". If yours matches that, then you should be able to buy any plug for a full-length guide rod and it should fit.

Thanks for the info. I purchased this new 17 years ago, and it's the only 1911 I own so have nothing to compare it too.

I've ordered a standard, blued recoil plug.

If you have a full length guide rod, you need a plug with a hole in it. The standard plug is closed for use with the short GI guide.

For a large assortment of plugs and reverse plugs, both closed and open, complete with pictures, you really can't beat EGW (as far as I know):
    Spring plugs
    Reverse plugs
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.
