No experience with the new one, but I have shot -- and really liked -- the original EMP. The only thing that stopped me was the ridiculous price.

The downside (other than the price) is that a great many parts are peculiar to the EMP, so the only source for such parts is Springfield. The aftermarket doesn't produce the special, shortened EMP parts.

    Lee,

I purchased the EMP4 Concelaed Carry Contour 5 months ago after trying one out as a rental gun at the local range. I have been in the shooting sports for 50 + years, former department firearms instructor, armorer, and have had an opportunity to try out many semi-autos over the years. What I can say based upon that experience is that the EMP4 CCC has become my all time favorite. The workmanship on it is excellent and it runs everything through it without malfunctions, even the Hornady 135 gr Flex Lock which has a bit of a flat nose and hangs up in some semi-autos. As I still do an annual qualification which includes shooting out to 25 yards, I find the EMP4 CCC to be very accurate. One of the best attributes, at least for me, is that it has light recoil so very comfortable to shoot for extended time at the range.

While the price may seem high, or low, relative to what other pistols a person may be considering, the way I look at it is, I have purchased more than one pistol that I was not completely satisfied with, so taking everything into consideration, the price seemed fine to me. Also, Springfield seems like a pleasure to do business with, as I wanted an extra take down tool and they were happy to send one out, and I misplaced the bag of extra fiber optic sights, and again they were happy to send a few out; always easy to get a live person on the phone, which is more than I can say for some other manufactirers.

Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions about it I might be able to provide answers to.

I don't have experience with the EMP4 however my older EMP has been a great pistol.
