Thanks for the add. Two questions 1. Do I have the correct safety lever and grips in my 1988. 2. Why doesn't the safety work. I have three HPs, know little about the differences in years. I have a 1967, 1968 and a 1988. The 88 has a terrible safety. You have to wiggle the hammer to get it to engage, even then it is very hard. The safety is the short stubby lever and the gun has wooden grips (no red paint on backs). I thought the late 80's came with a longer lever and black molded grips. The other two guns work flawlessly, same safety lever. I have disassembled the sear, safety lever and hammer, cleaned and lubed all and can't find any reason it hangs up. Could these parts have been replaced and not fitted properly. They all three handle and shoot great. Coming from carrying Sigs, 1911s and Glocks for many years I finally shot an HP and was hooked, so now I buy any I find in good shape. Not sure of any collectors value on any I have, I just like to shoot them. Thank ahead for any help anyone can provide!
