As I was prepping brass I had to stop & Think. Yes---major brain ****!! I use Quickload for my hand loads for my rifles!! Why not pistols?? Well, I haven't loaded for pistols in a while, I do have all the tooling heads set up for each caliper that I have. I purchased Quickload about 3 months ago---concentrating on my 6.5 CM and dialing in some loads for it. Not even thinking about 45 ACP or others at the time. Then the light went on ---a dim light at that---I can use Quickload and start load work up.

So thanks to all for directing me towards the light switch!!

    Cheers,
    HJR

You have a wonderful piece of craftsmanship from one of the premier old time pistolsmiths. I was fortunate to be able to acquire a similar pistol that he customized and the test targets came with it too. I also managed to acquire one of his catalogs. And it is impressive that he designed his own sights, which I've heard referred to as "wagon wheels." Take it out, enjoy it and treasure it.

The wagon wheel reference is spot on. That's what mine look like.
I was lucky to acquire this pistol for sure!

I would not hesitate to use a crimp in the .463 range, my bulleye pistol functions best with a .464-465 crimp with 185 grain lead swc's I started out using a .468 crimp and was having some feeding issues and my pistol smith who learned his craft from Bob Chow suggested the tighter crimp and have not had any problems since.

A .463 crimp is insane tight. I wonder if he knew something we don't about uniformity of ignition with heavy taper crimps? interesting.

I just noticed this. I buy semi-wadcutters from Berrys Bullets, and they don't have a "front band." The bullets Shockey was using must have been revolver bullets.

Nope, and they weren't plated, either.
He used a cast SWC and rolled a crimp into the bearing band between the lube groove and shoulder.
