New (old guy) checking in from AZ

After many years of carrying other designs on and off duty, retired LEO/department firearms instructor and armorer, and now finally having the freedom to select what I want, tried a 1911 as a rental pistol a few weeks ago and loved it, so immediately went out and bought one. Have very much enjoyed other make forums over the years, and very glad I found this one now; looking for advice and to learn as much as I can from all of you experienced and knowledgeable 1911 shooters. So an old guy here, but still a newbee with a lot to learn, so be gentle.

I'm sort of newbie also, being more used to S&W revolvers but this is a good forum and I've learned a lot about 1911s and I'll suspect you will as well. Welcome from south central Kansas. Kinda cold and windy now, well I guess it's always windy but what the heck, welcome.

Welcome to the group. I was 7 1/2 years into my career when our department authorized 1911s as optional duty weapons. By 1996 I had sold all my revolvers, and as of a few months ago, the only handguns I own are 1911s. There's just something about them that has made them my favorite pistols over the decades.

It looks like I may very well be headed down the same road, the more I shoot the 1911 style, the more I find I am preferring it over other designs.

Beatiful country up in your part of CA, many many years ago attended language school in Mnnterey and would go for trips north on my time off, how are things up in wine country these days?
