    Lightbulb Oldbie... from da' 'BURGH

Can you BE a "newbie," and own 1911's? That AUTOMATICALLY makes you an "oldbie," doesn't it?

In a world full of tactical tupperware, I like my handguns made of STEEL, and after 9/11, I decided to standardize on the 1911 (I'd carried a S&W 1006 almost daily for ten years before that) as MY handgun of choice.

That said, I bought my FIRST 1911 in 1991 - a thoroughly abused Michigan Armament kit gun. Annnnnnnd... it jammed (FTF) on hardball.

I bought my NEXT 1911, in 1992 - a spankin' new NORINCO! Annnnnnnnnd... it jammed (FTF) on hardball - second mag.

Bought my NEXT 1911, in 1995. A Springfield GI, new in the box. Annnnnnnnnd... I've been sold on 'em ever since!

I'll post some pics eventually. I just 'spruced up' the old G.I., which has led me to FINALLY understanding how they're BUILT (and not just how they shoot), and which has led me to the purchase of a NEW Springfield Loaded (used - but new to ME), which I look forward to picking up on Monday. And hopefully I learn a thing or twelve from youse guys on how to hotrod 'em, shoot straighter, and enjoy them all the more.
    "Because shooting twice is ridiculous."

Welcome to the group. I joined not long ago, even though it's been over 4 decades since I bought my first Colt Combat Commander. Already i've learned useful information from posts on the various forums within this website.
