    Star BM9 (almost 1911)

Just received a Star BM9 from J & G Sales. Started reading about these surplus guns (made in Spain) after seeing one in a gun store last weekend.

Has a great reputation and was made from 1972 to 1992. Mine was made in 1977.

Here is a picture of the right side featuring an external extractor.

The grips were offered by J & G for only$29.95. They really dress up an already nice gun (paid a little extra for a select pick). Got two extra magazines coming.

Will try to get to the range in a couple of days and try it out.

Has a great trigger pull (hinged instead of straight back like a regular 1911). Has no grip safety and is very easy to break down. Weighs 34.9 oz. and the magazine holds 8 rounds. Has a 4" barrel and is sort of like a Combat Commander.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

They are interesting pistols, but not 1911s. (This isn't horseshoes, so close doesn't count. ) Thread has been moved to the Non-1911 Firearms discussion area.

I'll look forward to the range report. I've been tempted to try one of those for quite some time.

I've been tempted to buy one for a long time. 3 or 4 places got them in back at the beginning of August and pretty much all priced them $190 to $250 depending on holster wear. These were Spanish Civil Guard surplus guns; you can see where the insignia was removed from the frame and slide. I bought one for one of my daughters. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it seems like it should be a very comfortable gun to shoot.

Those grips really do dress it up.

Just bought one from Classic Firearms for $179...This must be the 4th one I have owned over several decades, and they are rugged, great handling, flat and concealable 8 + 1 9mm Parabelum pistols, and they are good shooters, cheap. Over 270,000 were made, and mine is a 1976...
NEVER DRY FIRE these on an empty chamber - it over stresses the firing pin, and it is a **** to replace...I did it, I know.
Numrich has some parts, extra mags run about $45 bucks...
All steel, decent military sights, great feeling in the hand, and flat!
    I carry mine.
Great bargains and a great pistol.
