    RIA MS Guide Rod issue

I noticed that my RIA MS guide rod has managed to work its way lose. The rod had worked its way lose. I've tightened it by hand and it seems OK but the break down hole doesn't line up exactly like before. I could probably tighten it and get it aligned. But I'm working what to do about this. A Google search came up with to options. One option is apply some red loctite to it. The other is to get a new rod. If I need to get a new rod then I'm fine with doing that. But what criteria could I use to determine if I actually need to replace it? I opened a ticket with RIA Sunday evening, but I haven't heard from them yet.

The guide rod I have is most likely the one located at https://advancedtactical.com/product...de-Rod-1911-MS

Many one-piece guide rods are in fact glued two-piece guide rods.

If you have some red locktite handy, I'd splash some in the threads and quickly tighten it. That ought to take care of it, unless you hear different from the folks in Parhump NV.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

Better yet, if that's a full-length guide rod, dump it and replace it with a short one!

I did get a reply back. It took about a week this time around for them to reply, but they suggested Red Loctite as well. I went to the hardware store and they didn't have Loctite brand so I got some Permatex. I assume that will work.

It is an RIA MS, so it has a short guide rod.

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Warbird,

Send me your address (assuming you live in the US) and I'll send you a proper-length recoil spring guide (the short one.) You've encountered one reason folks hate the long ones.

    Regards,

    Josh

Correct me if I'm wrong. RIA MS models have a bull barrel and therefore bushingless, and uses a reverse plug.

Yes here a parts breakdown. Mine isn't a GI, but I suspect the parts are most likely the same ones.

Another option is to purchase from Advance Tactical - https://advancedtactical.com/product...de-Rod-1911-MS
and replace the existing MS guide rod.

I'm looking into options for a replacement. I bought some loctite but I haven't made time to look at it yet. Hopefully I'll get to look at this this weekend. Got a couple of honey do projects to take care of this weekend.
