    COLT WWII serial numbers fonts

    COLT's developed several different styles of lettering for their roll marks during the years, FWIK they changed the S/N fonts in 1945 but I can't find exactly when.
    Originality can't be restored, so put "originality" at the top of a priority list. If JMB didn't put it on the 1911 you don't need it.

    Scott Meadows' book U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1920 - 1945 says approx. serial number 2278662 on pg. 54.

    Scott Meadows has published these three books:

    U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894 - 1920, 1920 - 1945 and 1945 - 2012

    that have very useful information sometimes not found in other books. I highly recommend Scott's books for this reason.
