Do an internet search for "Springfield Armory 1911-A2 SASS", I think it's probably what you're after. 'Probably' because there have been other efforts along the same principle, i.e. to mount a 1911 frame onto a 'carbine' upper, to make a long-arm of shorts. The SA was single-shot and was sold both as a kit and as a complete gun in this configuration, but there were cheaper, stamped steel variants along similar lines. Some were even semi-autos. If you Google "1911 carbine conversion" you'll find some more.
Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.
