First time at Colonial Shooting Academy, Richmond, VA!

Wow... What a heck of a place! This is by far the most incredible indoor range I have ever been too!

    www.colonialshooting.com

I got there early this morning at 9:00am when they opened. As a non-member, I had to watch a simple, somewhat cheesy safety video, and then continue with paperwork forms and whatnot.

Here's the awesome surprise, compared to their pricing on their website...
    • They fully honored my military retiree/USCG Veteran status.
    • They even honored/accepted an old, expired, DCJS license from back when I wanted to get into armed security, about 8 or 9 years ago.
    • They let me bring my own gear (eyes & ears protection & some 8½ x 11 .pdf file printable targets).
    • They even let me shoot my own ammo - and not have to buy theirs!

    GRAND TOTAL PRICE: $22.50!!!

RIA full size 1911 .45 ACP "Rock Series - #51431" at 10 yards, shooting the last of the 100 round box of WWB 230gr FMJ rounds that my son-in-law bought me. No problems, no issues, absolutely flawless performance, except me being a {expletive} and not staying focused and relaxed. As a LEFTY, for some stupid reason, I was shooting a little to the right.

That's good shooting from 10 yards! Would be excellent even from closer, like 7 yards.

Lefties shooting to the right and righties shooting to the left (and down as most of your shots are, in the 4 o'clock quadrant) is VERY common, actually MOST common. Sometimes resolved by more finger (deeper) into the trigger or more support (pulling back) with the weak/support hand so the grip can be loosened by the shooting hand.

For those on Facebook, I saw where a guy uploaded this image as a guide to trigger control with the index finger. I snatched a copy of the image, duplicated it in Photoshop, and labeled each one.

    Here's the original (Righty):

Here's me and all other Lefties:
Look at the first column image and then scroll back up and look at my target. Bingo! I know exactly what I was doing wrong!

ButchA thank you for the info and pictures. No one ever explained it like this. Was just told to move my finger until the bullseye was being filled.

Some righties persist in shooting left of center (9 o'clock) and low left (8 o'clock) and can improve their target centering with a little more weak hand pressure to prevent their lower right fingers from sympathetically pulling the gun to the left.
